You can support the Foundation either by making gifts to one
of our existing funds or by creating a new fund that will go
on giving in your name forever to meet the changing needs of
the area.
The Foundation offers you many different ways to make gifts.
Also, there are a variety of different types of funds that you
can create in the Foundation.
Advantages in Giving to the Foundation
-
Giving to the Foundation can simplify your giving,
because the Foundation addresses a number of needs and supports
many charitable organizations within the community.
-
Your gift to the community is administered by the Foundation
and becomes part of a perpetual trust, ensuring that
your gift keeps on giving for all time.
-
The Foundation is a public foundation thus allowing your
contribution to give you tax benefits. Gifts
to the Foundation qualify for the maximum possible tax deductions.
-
Each fund's assets are managed by investment professionals
at our trustee banks, thus allowing you to be secure in
the knowledge that your funds will be managed wisely.
-
All receipts and expenditures are independently audited
and fully disclosed to the public, making the Foundation accountable to
the community.
-
The Foundation has the ability to address the changing charitable
needs of the community as they arise and can be flexible in
the knowledge that if the original purpose of your contribution
becomes obsolete, then the funds can be redirected to related
purposes without the expense or delay of court action.
A Variety of Fund Choices
Unrestricted Funds
Individuals who want to see their funds respond to the community's
needs as they change can establish an Unrestricted Fund. Year
after year, the responsibility for selecting the most appropriate
grantees rests with the Foundation's Board of Governors. These
funds offer the Foundation the most flexibility to respond to
changing community needs. Click
here for more information on unrestricted funds.
Field of Interest Funds
If there are particular causes that you want to benefit from
your gift, you may be interested in establishing a Field of Interest
Fund. This fund will perpetually carry a name selected by you
and may be broadly or narrowly focused on a particular charitable
field, such as the arts or human services. Click
here for more information on Field of Interest Funds.
Designated Funds
A Designated Fund will specifically benefit the charity or
charities of your choice. Donations in the fund's name will be
sent yearly to the named charities. Click
here for more information on Designated Funds.
Donor Advised Funds
Donors who create Advised Funds can recommend distributions
for bona-fide charitable purposes from their Funds periodically
for purposes of interest to them. Donor Advised Funds also let
the donor work closely with the Foundation staff, who will regularly
provide the donor with information concerning community needs
brought to the Foundation, so that he/she can review those needs
and see whether he/she would like to address any of them with
gifts from his/her Advised Fund. Click
here for more information about Donor Advised Funds.
Scholarship Funds
You can choose to establish a named Scholarship Fund. You
may specify the schools the students are to come from, or are
to attend, as well as other selection criteria. Click
here for more information on Scholarship Funds.
Memorial Tributes
At the time of the loss of a friend, relative, or colleague, it is often appropriate
that a contribution be made to charity. This can be a special tribute
to a special person, honoring them by celebrating their life and special
interest.
By making your gift in their name to the Parkersburg Area Community
Foundation you ensure that your memorial will benefit the entire
community. You can provide a lasting tribute that benefits
the ongoing charitable needs of our area.
