Allohak Council, Boy Scouts of America Fund

Since 1910, the Boy Scouts of America have provided programs that promote character building, citizenship training, and fitness for America's youth. Local scouting efforts are led by the Allohak Council, which serves youth and adults in a 17 county area, which includes all of the Mid-Ohio Valley. The Allohak Council was formerly known as the Kootaga Area Council. In 1990, it merged with the Central West Virginia Council in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Programs offered by the Council target youth ranging in age from the first grade through high school. Through its many Scouting programs, the Allohak Council strives to prepare young people for the future.

The Council has taken steps to ensure the future of its programs through the creation of an endowment fund at the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation. Through the Allohak Council, Boy Scouts of America Fund, established through the efforts of Fred Tipper, Endowment Committee Chairman, people now have the opportunity to become visionaries for Scouting in our area. Proceeds from the fund support Scouting and its efforts to help young people develop skills that prepare them for life.

Scouting promotes activities related to camping, conservation, leadership training, career exploration, and community service. Combining these activities, youth can become actively involved in their community and can see the effects of their work on their quality of life in our area.
