The Jesse Michael Cayton Memorial Scholarship was established in 2003 with DCCF in memory of Jesse Michael Cayton. This scholarship is intended for a graduating senior from Doddridge County High School who has been a lifelong resident of Doddridge County. The recipient needs to have participated in a school or non-school sports activity, and needs to be admitted to attend an accredited post high school institution. Preference shall be given to applications with financial need, and with a minimum GPA of 2.5. The first Jesse Michael Cayton Memorial Scholarship will be awarded in 2009, the class with which Jesse would have graduated.
Jesse was tragically killed in an automobile accident in September of 2002, an accident which also took the life of his uncle and seriously injured Jesse’s brother. Jesse lived in the Sedalia Community, and was a Doddridge County Middle School student at the time of his death. Since family, sports and school were important parts of Jesse’s life, his parents thought a scholarship benefiting local students would be an appropriate memorial.
